Welcome to the Frances Baard District Heart of South Africa’s Diamond Fields

Frances Baard District is a region of striking natural beauty, marked by vast savannahs, resilient flora, and vibrant sunflowers. It is nourished by five major rivers—Vaal, Orange, Modder, Harts, and Riet—which sustain both the land and its people. Historically, the area gained fame during the 19th-century diamond rush, sparked by the discovery of the Star of South Africa diamond, leading to the rise of Kimberley as a global diamond hub.

Beyond mining, the district offers diverse attractions, including San rock art, Anglo-Boer War sites, game viewing, birding, river-based activities, and unique spots like the Gong-Gong Waterfall, Khumba Skate Park, and the Nazareth House Mission Station. It also features rich agri-tourism experiences in the Vaalharts Valley.
