The Star of the West, Kimberley’s oldest pub, lies within sight of the city’s famous Big Hole, a perfect location for a tavern that grew out of the same diamond rush that put the city on the map.

Main Attractions

Established in 1907, the Kimberley museum is the province’s leading natural and cultural history institute, housing collections in botany, zoology, history, ethnography, archaeology, and rock art.

McGregor Museum

The Big Hole in Kimberley features South Africa’s only operating tram, a vintage 1887 service restored for tourism. It runs between the City Hall and the Big Hole, stopping at various points of interest.

Mokala, SANParks’ newest park 70km south-west of Kimberley, offers scenic open landscapes, Riet River views, self-catering chalets, guided rock art drives, and 4×4-accessible fishing spots at De Krans and Kleinbek.

Located 16km west of Kimberley, the Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Centre features 400 preserved San engravings, a rock art film, guided tours to the sacred hill, and a display of San crafts, artworks, and prints for sale.
